The Alcohol Related Deaths And Alcohol Related Problems That Are Correlated With Hazardous And Heavy Drinking And What Can Be Done About Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Addiction In Our Country

How many individuals face major problems in their lives because they received a "driving under the influence" conviction? On an annual basis, how many alcoholics fail to get the professional alcohol treatment they need? How many junior high, high school, and college students lose their lives every year due to an alcohol overdose? How many individuals die each year from a condition that is totally preventable, such as alcohol poisoning? How many individuals get injured or lose their lives in alcohol related traffic accidents every year? How many people are the victims of alcohol related crime or violence each and every year? How many individuals lose their lives every year because of drinking problems? How many children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome? How many people's lives are cut short due to abusive and excessive drinking?

So what is the point in asking these questions? Basically to stress the destructive and devastating nature of abusive and careless drinking. In fact, and based on the questions articulated above, it's a wonder why anyone would choose to drink in an abusive and excessive manner.

Stated differently, with the host of employment dilemmas, legal proceedings, relationship problems, health difficulties, and financial issues that are associated with alcohol dependency and chronic alcohol abuse, why would any person with average intelligence want to drink in an irresponsible manner? Indeed when some of the above topics are put under the microscope more closely, abusive and hazardous drinking becomes more illogical and makes even less sense.

Wouldn't you think that heavy drinkers would be able to see some of the alcoholism symptoms that they manifest? In a similar way, doesn't it seem plausible to think that more alcoholics would be able to perceive some of the alcoholism signs that they exhibit? Not only this but wouldn't you think that individuals who are addicted to alcohol would try to learn more about their alcoholic symptoms by reading about various alcohol-related facts, statistics, and information?

After reviewing the alcoholism and alcohol abuse research findings, the point is so critical that it needs to be repeated: With all of the damaging and debilitating consequences that are even remotely associated with continuous and repetitive alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse, why would any individual want to engage in excessive and abusive drinking?

What can be done about the widespread nature of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse in our country? Firstly, society needs to get the message to more people about the dangerous and unhealthy effects of excessive and abusive drinking. Second, people who are alcoholics or alcohol abusers need to look look at themselves honestly and ask why they are not getting the professional alcohol rehabilitation they need.

Thirdly, our students need more meaningful and more relevant preventative and educational methods and approaches so that more students at all grade levels, including those at college, are "reached". And fourth, our students need to learn how to become problem solvers in life rather than getting easily drawn to the "instant gratification" and the "quick fix" of an alcohol or drug abuse "buzz" or "high".

There's a lot of room for hope and optimism if people can start drinking in moderation and those who engage in hazardous drinking can become motivated to get the alcohol treatment they require. Indeed, why put your loved ones through suffering, turmoil, and pain because of your hazardous drinking when you have the power to control your life by drinking in moderation or even refraining from drinking if you cannot control your drinking?
