An Agitated High School Student Manifests A Number Of Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Expelled From School, And Has To See The School Therapist
Stephen was a sixteen year old high school sophomore who was exhibiting numerous alcohol-related problems at school. Therefore, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school therapist, before he would be allowed to return to school.
Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to explain his school expulsion to his Mother and Father. His parents were "fairly conventional" and told Stephen that getting thrown out of school was not a viable educational game plan. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his feet that may hurt his educational aspirations for the remainder of his adult life. In addition, Stephen's Mother and Father were quite upset that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.
It was apparent that his parents were on the same page as Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he had better come to the understanding that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist. After his talk with his parents, Stephen in due course agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen called the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Pender the next afternoon after school.
When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she at once went over all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had experienced and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of anxiety by the school administrators.
Quite honestly, Stephen was unsure why the principal told him he had to see a school therapist. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking situation? Due to the fact that virtually all of his classmates drink as much if not more than he does, in essence, drinking is no big issue. Stated differently, if almost everybody is drinking, why is this such a major issue?
In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to thwart his ability to act like a responsible young man. As verbalized by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your buddies drink alcohol does not mean that it's the best option for you."
Luckily, Miss Pender was well prepared for her scheduled time with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had underlined that outlined various drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen a lot of figures and reports that applied especially to teens.
After Miss Pender presented the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was evident that what Miss Pender revealed to Stephen was a wake up call for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to go over the long term and the short term consequences of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that related to everyone, and principally to teenagers.
Definitely, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately comprehended why he should not be engaging in hazardous and abusive drinking with or without his friends any longer. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she went over and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
